Deborah,
Judging from their behavior in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, which is
certainly hotter and drier in the summer than Seattle, at least some
Crocosmias are quite adaptable to droughty conditions, at least on heavy,
clayey soil. I grow C.'Lucifer' with very little irrigation, and it
blooms well enough. But an unnamed "heirloom" form with red flowers which
are in less elongate inflorescence than 'Lucifer' increases rapidly under
the same conditions. In fact there are very few late-blooming perennials
which bloom so well with so little water.
I think most of the 'hand-me-down' Crocosmias in the Pacific Northwest
will perform well in your [low-irrigation/no irrigation] Med garden.
