I finally solved it......why all the lupines (L. nanus) i transplanted
from the weedier parts of my yard to a nicer weed free area were
dissappearing. Seems snails were comming out late at night to feast on
them (one was wrapped around a stem). I found this out tonight as a i
was comming home from a friends house. I was looking at the patch of
soil when i noticed many (at least 20 or so) round shapes. On close
inspection i found these were snails! So, i plucked all of them up and
threw them into the street. I also stomped on 15 more that were all
over the dry creek bed i had created. The area where i had transplanted
the lupies was also seeded with this "meadow in a bucket" (which is an
experiment to see what comes up). Fortunately there are so many
seedlings that the snails havent really affected them at all.
