Melianthus

Well, there are people who actually LIKE the smell of melianthus
leaves - when we've had open days for the garden here, we've had
people sneakily scrunching leaves in order to sniff them. Made me
wonder what was producing the smell? I mean, have I been missing out
on something?!
Incidentally, does anyone grow any other melianthus spp? I've just
trying M. villosus, which has equally beautiful leaves, tho' plain
green rather than M.m.'s glaucous blue-green-grey. It seems rather
less tolerant of my wet cool climate but has survived its first winter
and is now growing vigorously. Anybody have any comments on its
hardiness/desirability?
