Quercus alnifolia is endemic to Cyprus (grows wild only there), so won't
be found in Turkey (unless it has escaped detection there, which is
possible but a bit of a long shot). I would guess the best time to collect
viable acorns would be September or October. The oaks in Crete are
ripening at that time and the conditions are similar. Be sure to reject
any acorns with small holes in the skin, as these are parasitized by bugs
and will be non-viable (and also especially unwelcome by U.S. customs).
Plant the acorns as soon as possible after collecting them -- they don't
hold viability for very long.
