Dear Jose,
I found the following description in "North American Landscape Trees" by
Arthur Lee Jacobson published by Ten Speed Press, Berkeley, California.
1966.
"Cornus hongkongensis
= Dendrobenthamia hongkongensis
Hongkong Dogwood. From SE China and Vietnam. Named in 1888. Extremely
rare; in commerce since the late 1980s. Much confused with Cornus
capitata, which is similiar in tree form and leaf size. The main
difference is technical: Hongkong Dogwood has a truncate, entire calyx.
Also its leaf is usually broader, thicker-textured, and slightly lustrous
above; pale green rather than grayish or whitish beneath. In other words,
for all practical purposes Hongkong Dogwood looks like (and presumably
behaves like) Cornus capitata."
I hope this helps,
Ernie
