It's a fungus, Discula destructiva (aptly named), not a virus which is the culprit. I haven't heard of it on the west coast yet but it has been devestating back east. If it shows up in the west it will probably be in the moist Pacific Northwest areas first as it is favored by wet springs and high humidity, high rainfall. D. Lindsay Oakland, Ca.
