Wow, that must have been interesting. Anyways on a somewhat similar note,
the local newspaper ran a story about volunteers trying to keep 120 year
old grape vines alive at "Indians Adobe". They said that the vines may be
from the time of the Missions or at least cuttings from the grape vines at
the mission. Suffice to say, they dont have very many grapes left after
birds and squirrels get to them. They also show a picture of one of the
vines, which is quite gnarled and twisted. They said some of the vines are
as thich as tree trunks! They also said that they can only make wine when
the grapes arent as ripe as they should be because deer jump the fence to
get to the grapes (this results in an acidic wine). But, they said a
second fermentation should create a sparkling wine. Anyway, it was an
interesting article, and they also mentioned theyre rooting cuttings to
get new vines.
