Loved your description of autumn. Just going into another lovely blue
quiet day here too. I was most interested in all your lovely and unusual
birches.

The Port Arthur massacre touched us deeply in NZ as well, as we lost a
very fine young man full of promise as an outstanding winemaker -leaving
behind a very traumatized wife and child, who almost certainly owe their
lives to his self-sacrifice.

We had an unusually mild winter last year (courtesy of global
warming???) It had some odd effects, one was paeonies around Wellington
flowerd poorly, presumably because of lack of sufficient winter chill,
so mild conditions do not suit everything. I wonder what this year will
bring.
