Hello to all,
The discussion of buddleia and anisodontea turns
out to be timely and interesting. In the spring, I bought two plants in town
here. They had little in common beyond green leaves and the fact that they grew
in soil and were for sale, but both were labelled anisodontea. Because one
of them is suffering a bit from yellowing leaves and both were mentioned in
the same breath here, I finally managed to identify the buddleia globosa,
the other being labelled correctly.
It's a common problem here. The two permanent
stores here are owned by people who know next to nothing about what it is
they're selling. Or even worse, misinform by labelling everything that climbs as
a "jasmín" everything that has daisy-like flowers as a "margarita", and so
forth. Most of the time, I ask about something I don't recognize, know I'm not
getting a very good answer, and just say, "Yeah OK. Whatever.", and buy the
thing and take a futile stab at identifying it from some book or other. The
end result is a lot of time spent replanting or watching things do not much of
anything.
