Dear Barbara, 
 It can be done by  cutting  the rhizomes in pieces of 5cm each with a
viable bud and some tubers attached.  To be planted in pots with a
organic potting substrate and the rhizomes should be near the surface.
In a mediterranean climate this can be done late summer or late winter. 
 Water regularly, but once established in full ground  they can become
dormant during the summer and revive again in Septembre.
