dividing alstroemeria

What's the best way to divide alstoemeria? I don't know the
particular species I have--just that it's a tall one with
golden red and yellow inside (sorry for the non-scientific
terminology). It seems to love its position in my garden
i.e. facing south but with lots of shady times during the
day because of the neighbor's redwood) but it's taking over.
Doesn't need much water, either.
