salvia greggii ID

I have a cutting from a red greggii but I don't know which one it is. It's
a small one, around 1 1/2 feet high with about a 2 foot spread. The leaves
are smooth and very pungent and the flower is a clear cherry red, maybe not
quite as dark as a cherry.

I'd like to know sun/shade and water requirements of this one. My friends,
from where the cutting comes from, has become quite woody at the base. Do
these types benefit from cutting back at all?
