Re:salvia greggii ID


I can't really help with a sure i.d. but I have an older variety here
which was labeled 'Cherry Red' and is woody at the base,after about 5 years
(I've had these for about ten)they were about 4ft tall and quite woody. Now
I
prune them back late winter/early spring when I see new buds breaking from
the
base and/or from the woody limbs. I treat them rather as I do roses
(removing dead or damaged wood, thinning and cutting back to new/young
growth.
This plus an inch of compost results in good new 
growth and lots of bloom and hummingbirds...They bloom all year off and on
here.
