At a public garden in Victoria, B.C., we have a field with a year-round wet patch in the middle. Right now, wild rushes are growing in it, surrounded by the mown grass of the rest of the field. We aren't going to do anything intensive with this area - it's a good place for kids and dogs to run, and we may use it for parking during special events.
However, we would like to grow a spectacular plant in it - one unusual enough to draw people to it from a distance. Someone suggested gunnera, but that really isn't unusual enough.
Any suggestions?
