Can anyone suggest the best way to grow crocosmias in our summer-dry climate?  I?ve bought many of these lovely plants over the years and watched them spread and multiply in the garden, but rarely bloom.  In sun the leaves turn brown (sunburn?) and I cut them down to avoid the unsightliness.  In shade, the leaves turn pale and I get no flowers.   I?ve tried them in sunny pots with other summer bloomers which receive regular water but the crocosmias still brown out.  I?ve run out of ideas so would welcome any you may have.

A couple of suggestions which could help. While Crocosmias will certainly not bloom unless they get some sun, it is possible that yours are getting more than they need and that is browning them. One account I have recommends giving them morning sun only and perhaps this might be worth a try. At the same time they do appreciate good water supplies and too little might certainly lead to browning (as i suppose might also too much!
