I can't provide any more info on abutilons in general than Sean. I love
them and have half a dozen.
I have found a trick to keep scale at bay: put ant stakes at the base
of each plant and keep them fresh. (May help plants that get aphids,
too). Of course, you may not approve of using poisons, but at least
these don't spray into the air or (I think) go into the soil - If I'm
wrong about the latter, I'd like some feedback.
The small plants I put in sat without changing much for about a year,
but the two oldest are really taking off. Their major problem is a
disturbed neighbor who has the habit of snapping off the tops of plants
near the sidewalk (grrr). I have a variegated one with apricot flowers
and it seems more prone to scale and slower to grow.
