Periodically on this list the subject of just which
areas of the world are "officially" considered to
have Mediterranean climate is discussed.
I was interested in a publication that just came
across my desk at work: "Bioclimatic map of the
Mediterranean zone", published in Unesco's series
Arid Zone Research.
It contains small maps of the areas outside the
Mediterranean Sea area that have a Medit. climate:

the tip of Cape Province, South Africa
Southwest Australia
West Coast of North America
Chile-Argentina between 30 and 50 south latitude

Are we all gearing up to tackle El Nino this winter?
