replacement shrub for abutilon "victor's folly"

Hello - I couldn't stand the annual battle against the ants and scale on my
abutilon any longer so, this morning, I put the plant out of its misery.  I
now need to replace it with something of a similiar, but less rangy, habit.
It will be against my west fence (this spot gets about 2 hours of direct
sunlight a day).  Any suggestions?  Thanks!!!!!!
