>>Do ants have any natural enemies, other than anteaters?
Other species of ants to begin with, as well as ant-lions (myrmeleons),
spiders, centipedes, frogs, toads, lizards, birds, monkeys, and even
bears. The best friends of ants, of course, are picnics.
A good chemical control for fire ants - at least it works well in the
tropics where fire ants are fierce as well as in season every day of the
year - is Amdro granular fire ant insecticide, EPA registered in the USA.
One pound will treat an acre and costs about $15.
>>OK - that got my attention - do anteaters eat anything besides ants ?
Ants in quantity having long been in short supply in New York City, even
when I was a boy more than half a hundred years ago, the Bronx Zoo then
kept giant South American anteaters alive for many years on a tasty diet
of beaten eggs, raw hamburger meat, and cod liver oil.
