Lapeirousia (syn Freesia) 'Naticoke'

Does anyone on the list happen to know'n'grow this plant? An English
friend, a great enthusiast for everything florally South African, Dave
Fenwick from Plymouth, grows it from plants derived ultimately from a
garden in Devon (the Reads, for any Devonian listening in) but he has
no information about its origins, except that Mrs Read thought it
might have come to them from America. What Dave, a scholarly chap,
would like to know is: why the name? (is it a place? a garden?? is it
indeed in the US???) and: if it's a hybrid, what are the species
involved?

TIA if anyone can offer any info or leads. I can, courtesy of Dave,
send as an attachment an image of its flower, if anyone would like to
see it either as a matter of simple interest or as a possible help to
an ID.
