RE: Gary Matson Virtual Garden
http://www.eosdev.com/garysgarden/GaryIndex.htm
About Gay's excellent point: keep it simple.
That's a good idea I think. The only additions it has to have is an quick
alphabet menu for easy indexing once the list is just a little bit longer.
Even now it has good potential as a reference source.
Some other notes that may or may not be of interest:
- The family and close friends of Gary and Winfield may contribute more
remembrances and if so, I'll list those with Marcia and Roger's thoughts at
the beginning. It would be nice to have better pictures of Gary and Winfield
and perhaps of some of the projects they worked on - we'll see.
- There was discussion among those working on it about listing the Clea
Matson Education Fund, which some other folks are organizing. The general
feedback at the moment is the site asks absolutely nothing of the visitor
but to look through it. There's no advertising, there's no requests for
money - let's keep it that way. We could certainly put in a link to the
folks who are handling that effort, once we've made contact there. That
sounds like an excellent idea to me.
- Right now, the main thing it needs is photo contributions from new
gardeners in different areas. Diane is contacting the other bulletin boards
and chat groups Gary participated in, that she knows of. Julie is contacting
their mutual friends in their local garden society. This morning I wrote The
American Iris Society, The American Rose Society, The American Orchid
Society, The Royal Horticultural Society and The Royal Botanical Gardens -
Edinburgh, as well as some of the local chapters of each, inviting them to
the site and letting them know their members' photo contributions would be
welcome as well.
I let them know I was writing as an individual interested in the project. I
have no idea if I will hear back from a one but I covet their photos for our
garden. It would help if I were actually a member of any of them, so I had
some advance credibility.
Gosh, if only I knew people who had contacts in universities, horticultural
societies and botanical gardens who might add a photo from those
collections...hmmm...where could they be found? I'm sure it will come to me
but if you have a clue, feel free to pass the word around contributions are
welcome.
Thanks
