Fellow Medit-Planters -
I'd like to announce some recent changes to the 'books' section
of the Medit-Plants website. It has been restructured to be more
than just the one, very long list of titles, now being chopped
into more manageable chunks. I've also started to diversify the
what these books are organized and listed (by date, etc.) and
there will be more to come in future. If you have any ideas
about possible ways this might be arranged, let me know.
One of the other reasons for the re-vamp is to install 'affiliate'
links for many of the books we list. This is common on web pages
these days since being an affiliate can earn the site a percentage
of the purchases generated by these links. The idea for the M-P
site is to generate some revenue to help support our site (which is
currently supported pro-bono). Since we listed the books anyway,
and since we were trying to provide complete information about each
book, adding an 'affiliate' link seemed very appropriate. I have
researched various affiliate programs for books (Amazon.Com is the
most commonly used), deciding upon Barnes&Noble. They have the
largest percentage of books in stock for our purposes, provide
good response to request that they add books to their datbases,
and also provide a resonable affiliate return.
So, what does this mean? If you pruchase a book on-line via our
links, Barnes&Noble keeps track that you came from our site. As the
sales from our site add up, a percentage is sent to us (when it
totals a certain amount). If you plan to buy books online, using our
links helps support the M-P site. There is no additional fee for you.
I also found Barnes&Noble's prices to be quite good, and they often
use slightly used copies of books are very good prices.
To get to our new 'books' section, go the the main page of the site:
http://www.support.net/Medit-Plants/
and select the 'inprint' section from the navigation list. From here
you'll see the page options. As I understand it, any purchases you
make after using our link to Barnes&Noble will be credited to our site,
not just the books we listed to get you there. So if you're buying
books online anyway, here is a way to help support something worthwhile
in the process.
Let me know if you have any questions about the above. I'm also
interested in any feedback about the pages themselves. And if you do
not find the book you are looking for, let me know - we'll try and
find information for you and encourage B&N to list it as well.
Regards,
Sean O.
