Financial aid
Thanks, Bill Grant, for clarifying some of the expenses involved in
maintaining this valuable service. Although some Medit-Planters may be
very knowledgeable about the technical infrastructure behind our
seemingly simple discussion group, I and others are naive — OK, totally
clueless — about how this thing actually works. Can we please (continue
to) be as up-front, clear and specific about what any of our needs are?
Perhaps a more detailed expense budget needs to be outlined for us at
some point. We are a community and we need to know what it takes to keep
this community functional.
Although I was initially bothered by the idea/need of corporate
sponsorship involved in Medit-Plants, I now think it may be necessary to
generate some income — somehow. However, can't we get sponsorship that
is aligned with our discussion topic? Advertising is information (of a
kind) and we are in the information business. Barnes & Noble, I'm sure,
might serve our listers in some way, but a company like Thompson &
Morgan might serve us better. You get the idea: Can our sponsors be
plant-oriented?
Also, I would not be averse to paying a nominal subscription for this
service, if the costs (where my money goes) are clearly outlined. That
said, subscriptions require even more management on the part of someone
in charge of the list. I'm not sure that's what Sean or someone else
wants.
