Re: Pilea peperomia

Jools, as Rod says it is almost certainly Pilea peperomoides.
Periodically it does the rounds in garden centres and often comes over
in large consignments of pot plants bought 'on the clock' in the
Netherlands. I't really is very easy to keep going and only a
combination of cold and extreme wet will kill it off. Sounds as
though you are giving it near perfect conditions. Keep it more on the
dry side in winter - the leaves are pretty resistant to drying out and
unless the plant is kept very warm and artificially lit, it will slow
down considerably from about November until February. Most Pileas
seem to prefer remaining fairly root bound, so don't be in too much of
a hurry to repot. An occasional splash of liquid fertiliser will keep
it happy.
