Thank you Nan,Sean and Lauw for your helpful information. I have noted the
sources for drought resistant plants. For years now I have been lucky enough
to live next to one of the most interesting plantsmen in this area, Dino
Pelizzzaro. He and his wife have been most welcoming and allowed me to lurk
in the glass houses to paint rare beauties.
As of tomorrow I move from my wonderful but demanding garden, and will for
the time being take my pleasures vicariously through all these interesting
postings.
The real purpose of my posting above, [which I tried to wrap up so as not to
appear elitiste, ]was to encourage the use of Latin, rather than local
names, so we may all, wherever we are, enjoy and identify the plants under
discussion.
On another subject entirely, at dinner the other night with a bunch of local
Med gardening friends we were discussing worms, the garden sort. One of the
group is cultivating them as they are quite a rarity here. [She cannot
remember the Latin names : ) ] but says there are 2 varieties, both
Australian] She wondered whether it matters what you feed them. What might
the optimum diet be ? For instance she minces up old tea bags, and her
husband thought this was an unecessary courtesy. It seems they relished an
old unminced T shirt , except for the nylon thread, although it took them a
while to devour it. As one of the comments made that evening was that
gardeners have done more to destroy the environment than commercial farmers,
I wonder whether introducing these foreign worms is to be recommended ? Is
there a worm expert out there please,to help answer these
peripheral-to-Medit-gardening questions?
TIA
