Re: cut back passiflora and dalechampia ?

Nan,
You have a hard decision. I am not familiar either with termite gas (Vikane = methyl bromide?) or dalechampia. However, I have had several Passiflora speicies that were appareently killed in a frost, but which came back from the roots. The entire above-ground portion was killed. They started to resprout about 4-5 months after the frost, so don't give up hope too soon. I had another variety, which did not come back from the frost. Good luck. Tenting is the right decision for the house. Beware of re-entering too soon after tenting.

Richard, et al: methyl bromide is a fumigant. But I believe Vikane is a different fumigant. To the best of my knowledge Vikane is Sulfuryl fluoride. It is not a pleasant material but it does the job with no particular odor or residual effect. I just did my greenhouse several months ago and had no problems. I was afraid of what might happen to a number of bromeliads that I took out and put on shelves along a fence. I was mildly pleased but chagrined when I got the distinct impression that many of them preferred it outside! So many of them are still there.
As for re-entering, I don't believe the fumigators will release it to you until it's safe. They do not want to be sued!

I hate to sound callous Nan, but if they die, you can replant them. Of course you lose the "time" involved in getting them to their present state. but "C'est la vie!" Down with termites! They must go! ---Chas---
