Pulling seems to be the only option, unless you don't
mind resorting to herbicides. It can be tenacious, but
if you can get some school children to make it a
game... :). It seems to respond to roundup fairly
well. I think that earthworms may not go after it
because the dried leaves are quite big and hard.
Perhaps if they were roto-tilled into the ground
they'd be a good amendment, but i'm not sure. We have
a ton of it in our backyard (and we don't like it,
flowers or not), and the only thing that seems to be
able to get a foothold is weedy grasses.
On the beach, legless lizards seem to like it to make
homes.
