Re: carpobrutus edulis

Hi, Jane,

I would not mulch this or use it as a soil ammendment. I think of Carpobrotus edulis as being similar to ivy in how it behaves and roots around. I think if unless you have a super hot compost pile that is sure to completely break down the plant, avoid using it as a mulch. You're more likely to get it spreading everywhere. I'm sure if you have a greenwaste pick-up service at your home, it's safe to get rid of it that way if you don't want to send it to the landfill.

Hope this is helpful,
Bridget

Dear listers,
Does anyone have any easy way of removing carpobrutus edulis? The area is about 50ft. by 9 ft. and it is very heavy to haul around. Underneath the vines is a thick pad of fallen leaves. Is this usable for mulch or soil amendment? There doesn't seem to be any earth worms in this area. Has anyone tried this as an amendment?
Grateful for any help on this.
Jane
