Actually, this is Delairea odorata (formerly Senecio mikanioides) and as Cyndi stated, it is very much a thug and will take over a large amount of space. In coastal forests of California, where it grows year-round, it has often covered everything around with its rampant growth. I advise not to encourage it and in fact to try and remove it whenever possible. Here is some more information:
