[medit-plants] Ventura Botanical Garden on Science Friday (radio)

Just heard a radio snippet about the fire-devastated Ventura Botanical Garden (VBG) in Southern California. Sad, but interesting as the fact that mediterranean climate adapted plants was discussed along with their ability to regenerate after fires.

Could not help but be struck with how casually the term 'mediterranean climate' was being tossed around by the radio host Ira Flato and Joe Cahill of the VBG.  20 years ago, before this discussion group originally got started, the mere mention of this term would require much explanation and discussion on its own, even before the topic at hand could be addressed.  We've come quite far, yet I still see some significant gaps in our understanding.

Do any of you have stories about people using the term 'mediterranean climate' - either correctly or in error?
