I'll bet that the so-called red bird-of-paradise is Caesalpinia (Poinciana)
pulcherrima, described in the Sunset Western Garden Book as a "tropical
deciduous shrub" to 10 ft x 10 ft.
The Strelitzia reginae form with yellow and blue flowers is in the LA Co.
Arboretum's African Section. It is interesting but not as striking as the
"typical" form with orange and blue flowers.
