If Im not mistaken your plant should be referred to as Origanum syriacum
(syn's.; Amaracus syriacus, Majorana syriaca, Schizolcalyx s., O.
 aegyptiacum, Majorana aegyptiaca, M. scutellifolia).

It belongs to section Majorana together with O. majorana, O. onites. I
unfortunately lost the plant due to winterwet, it is rather hard to find.
Should resist in a well drained soil in zone 8. Subshrub stems ascending or
erect, can reach up to 90 cm's. 3 varieties are recognized O. s. var.
 syriacum, O. s. var. bevanii, O. s. var. sinaicum
