Ciao a tutti,
I'm asking help for Joseph O' Dell, an innocent man that's is going
to be killed on 18 december, in Virginia.
He was charged of rape and homicide of Helen Schartner and condemned
to death on November 1986.
His accuser have withdrawn his declaration telling that he did it
only to win the favour of the attorney and to obtain a less severe
sentence for his trial for robbery and arson.
The DNA test on blood stains found on Joseph's garment have stated that
blood don't belong to the victim.
In 1994, the Court of Appeal cancelled the death sentence for a
defect of title in the trial, but refused to open hearings on DNA
test (requested by the defence) because this test was produced after
the 21 days term.
On November 1996, another Court of Appeal have overturned that
sentence confirming the death penalty and excluding the DNA test.
I read about this story on Italian newspaper (Corriere della Sera)
and I was told about from my friend that is an Amnesty
International's activist .
We can send telegrams to
Governor George Allen,
State Capital,
Richmond, VA 23219
or E-Mail messages to the Attorney General Gilmore
vaattygen@aol.com
asking to reconsider this case.
Thank you
Bye
Paolo
