Hi Alice,
I'm forwarding a request from the "major domo" of the Medit-Plants
discussion list. Sean is a very dedicated and knowledgeable gardener --
and works many long hours to make this discussion list work very well. In
fact, I'm not sure why I haven't mentioned to you before that you should
join -- seems like we always end up talking about roses.
(Sean, Alice is quite the noted rosarian up north -- and all around for
that matter. Don't know if you've heard of her before but she has quite a
passion for old fashioned roses, especially those that do well in our
climate. She and her family are quite involved in many matters
horticultural in the Mendocino area and she just may have some leads for
your winter trip.)

Subject: looking for Bay Area Coastal accomodations
X-Listprocessor-Version: 8.0 -- ListProcessor(tm) by CREN
Medit-Plantspersons in California -
I fear that I may be overstepping the bounds of this group, but here
goes anyway. . .
I am trying to make some plans for my family over Xmas as we've been
unanimous in our late decision to 'get away'. But due to our late
decision, our interest in spending a couple of days along the coast
is being thwarted by the fact that most accomodations were booked
for Xmas far in advance. We're looking for a small cabin, motel
room, house exchange, or whatever, hopefully in some proximity to
the coast (north or south) around the SF Bay Area. We are very
simple people (Deb & I, Colleen - 14, Evan - 10) and do not require
any fancy amenities (we love to camp during the summer) or to be
near any place in particular.
I had hoped we might be able to get up north a little so that we
might visit the Mendocino Botanical garden (if open) or other
gardens in that area, but we're mostly interested in getting out
into our beautiful countryside to relax and 'commune with nature'!
We're happy to rent a house not being used, or trade some services
(my wife is an interior designer and I do landscape consultation and
design) if appropriate.
The time period is the weekend after the Holiday - 12/27-29.
I just love this time of year, while often wet and colder, there is
a real verdant lushness about the landscape that is not evident
during our warmer months. The kids, Deb and I love to see the local
wildlife, spot and identify wildflowers and geologic formations, and
just generally appreciate the outdoors. We are also very
considerate and tidy people.
Any ideas or leads greatly appreciated. Thanks for letting me use
this bandwidth.
