Mind you, I'm not educated in the identifying and caring for growing things,
but
I have used my own garden as an experiment. I have planted Romneya coulteri
in
various places under various conditions. My experience is that it likes
sunlight, and needs little in the way of fertilizer and water. As a matter
of fact I have seen it used as a freeway plant (no doubt wild) in Los Angeles
(405 freeway). My gardener,
who has even less education as to plants and doesn't care about the garden
systematically lops off everything which grows to unruly height and width in
this unilateral opinion. He's done this twice with the RC and each year it's
grown
back more lush than before and sprouted new plants near the original one. So
I
don't think a severe end of season pruning would hurt it. I for one cut the
blooms for vases as I've discovered they are longer lasting in the vase and
the
fragrance is phenomenal.
