Arbutus unedo is a great charchol producing tree.
It may have spread from England to Turkey at one stage.
but the Celts burnt it for charcol & iron refining.
There are a few isolated patches in Island and Great Britain I am told.
Many people believe it is native to Greece.
I have a 15 year old one growing in my garden.
The flowers are the prettiest part of the tree
otherwise it is not very exciting.
