Ingrid Thanks for your good wishes and enjoy your peaceful winter while we at the "other end" are busy with our summer gardens. I'll swing a glogg jug with you any time! Just one small comment. One is always likely to get better establishment if one gets any sort of tree or shrub from a climate similar to one's own, or somewhat colder. Those from warmer, easier conditions often find it hard to acclimatize. I have particularly encountered this here in the case of roses. I was talking to someone in the far south of New Zealand recently (the COLD end of our country) and she had lost several roses over the previous winter which she had bought from a very reputable nursery, but one situated in a much milder northern area. They just couldn't adapt fast enough to heavy frosts. Those that did manage to come through the cold will presumably be hardened enough to survive in future winters, but the operation is a bit hazardous and wasteful. Happy New year everyone.
