Judy,
On Monday I happened to be watching a rerun on video of the British
gardening series, 'Bloom'.One of the presenters, Bill Chudziak of
Craigieburn Gardens in Scotland, was in the tropical glasshouse of Cambridge
Botanic Gardens,England with a magnificent specimen of Strongylodon
macrobotrys ( which btw he pronounced Stron-gi-LOH-don ).He described it as
'the liana from Outer Space' with 'racemes of curved jade-green teeth ' and
correctly guessed that the first thought on our minds would be how to grow
this legume in our conservatories ! His next remark, unfortunately , was
that we shouldn't bother trying as the plant originated in the rain forests
of the Philipines and needs ' high heat, shade and stacks of air
humidity'.Of course Bill was referring to conservatories here in the British
Isles ; some Medit-planters in other areas might be able to meet these
requirements...and for them, a request to Cambridge BG *might* produce a
few seeds 'for research purposes' if they can't be obtained nearer home.
Best of luck!
