Moira's comments about this wretched plant struck a
chord. When I came to this garden 10 years ago, it
had been neglected for some time. This awful plant
(I was a complete novice and didn't know what I was
dealing with) was in every shady spot. I still haven't
been able to eradicate it. It's no good pulling it up,
you have to remove it and put in in the rubbish bin as
it will re-root itself if left lying anywhere. It thrives
on weedkiller (glyphosate) and is amazingly drought-tolerant.
Vinca (major?) runs it a close second, possessing all
these qualities. My other major mistake was to plant
Tecomaria capensis as a screen, which it did efficiently
and quickly, but now have to battle it as it comes up
everywhere.
A completely different topic - my Climbing Lorraine Lee
is very susceptible to mildew. Is this a common problem?
