Well, if the accounts I have read are to be believed, no-till is
probably the cultivation method LEAST tied to a good starting soil. I
have heard of excellent results on a basis of everything from the
grossest thick clay to a substrate mostly composed of stones - and
everything between. In fact it seems to work particularly well on clay.
Possibly because most clays have plenty of intrinsic fertilty from the
minerals they contain and only need a way of unlocking this.
