Dear Kay
I have no experience with California Oaks but had you thought of
the winter growing species cyclamen - hederifolium and coum in
particular? There are dozens of selected forms and cultivars if you
like variety or you could simply go with the commonest sorts and
be just as happy. So long as the winter rains can penetrate the
evergreen canopy things should go well. Try C. repandum too.
