Re: Members in Saudi Arabia / Adenium

Adenium arabicum can be purchased from Arid Lands Greenhouses, Tucson,
Arizona, phone (520) 883-9404, fax (520) 883-8874. Received two A.
arabicum plants well established shipped solider, wrapped in newspaper a
month ago that are now leafing out - albeit in a greenhouse.

Arid Lands has an enormous catalog of succulents that must contain other
possibilities for Riyadh. Their catalog is available through their
internet site, www.aridlands.com

Having grown adenium obesum in pots for years, they have withstood
temperatures down to the mid 30s Fahrenheit -- provided they are not
watered. Cold induces dormancy and they will then quickly rot if
watered. If that happens, the plant can be saved by rooting the severed
top after letting it dry for a couple of weeks (easy in a peat/perlite
mix). The bigger the top, the better they root, it seems.

There are many pictures in the archives of the adenium list at
ADENIUM@onelist.com, and at www.angelfire.com/hi2/AdeniumPictures/ and
the pictures of adenium species in the wild at
www.cactus-mall.com/andre/index.html are wondrous.

Other sources of Adenium plants and seeds are listed at
www.cactus-mall.com/andre/sources.html A. obesum is fast from
seed. Much info about A. arabicum at
www.cactus-mall.com/andre/part4.html, co-authored by one of the
principals of Arid Lands Greenhouses.
