Yucca question from rec.gardens

Appears nobody else will respond to this. I imagine it's Y. elephantipes,
which is all but ubiquitous in US interiorscapes at least. I can look at
Sunset Western Garden Book and cite average temps, but what's anyone's real
experience with this at the limits of its range?
(which I suspect Germany - broadly considered - may be pushing).

A few other considerations might be #) that he's looking at some other
genuinely hardy species and extrapolating #) that it might be his plant but
would only be expected to last n years before freezing (or might be in the
yard of someone who can afford to replace a specimen every year) #) and, of
course, that a sheltered site and/or excellent drainage might be critical.

Full credit for any help to the mailing list, naturally - which I've
often recommended there, along with the website, to people who obviously
needed to be directed this way.

I keept my yucca tree for years indoor, but meanwhile it has become too
large. I cut already one branche, but now the next hits the ceiling.
Lately during a walk, I saw a yucca outdoor. I was very astaunished,
because here in Germany it can get significantly below freezing (in
average december till february is around freezing (0 degree centigrade).

Is this a special yukka type or can I take my yucca out of the room an
plant it into the garden?
