Re: favorite fragrant plants

Great new thread; I'm following with interest!

Last fall I planted a new (to me)honeysuckle; Lonicera confusa 'Kate
Sessions'. It carried its sweet smelling clusters of pale yellow and
white blooms well into December. I've only seen it once before in a very
special Santa Barbara garden where it conformed well to the west facing
corners of the one story house. It looked as if it had been kept tight
by shearing, but was blooming abundantly. Talk about a wafting scent; I
just had to follow my nose to find it! I'd describe the fragrance as
light, sweet and fruity.

I was told by garden designer Sydney Baumgardener, that the honeysuckle
was given to her by Elizabeth DeForrest (who was a great friend of Kate
Sessions) and that she (Syndey) has convinced San Marcos Growers to grow
a limited number of them. I'm guessing it's only available in the Santa
Barbara area because that's where mine came from. But, wow, what a
wonderful plant!
