My two cents on the Daphne subject.
When I worked for Sunset magazine, we did an informal
survey of those who grew Daphne. The gross findings:
If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you have a 90%
chance of success.
If you live in Central, coastal California, you have a
50% chance of success.
If you live in Southern California, you have a 10%
chance of success.
Don't ask me what "success" meant.
Oddly, too, when I lived in South Carolina, I saw
gorgeous Daphnes in many gardens. Didn't get much
colder there and it often got hotter.
