Trying to re-live the years as a child I lived in the Canal Zone, I
planted 6 or 8 bougainvilleas around our new house in Clearwater, FL in
1987. They grew so quickly that pruning was often required and pruning
was hazardous -- a good way to introduce yourself to body-piercing. After
several years of unsuccessfully trying to tame these plants (some
freestanding, some next to the house), I finally was able remove them all.

If I ever use them again, it will be in a place where they will never
need to be trimmed.
