Cali, I answer you directly - I don't know how to answer through the Med
Plants Group.
You are doubtless referring to the onions called "cal&Ggr;§ots" in Catalan.
They are grilled over a fire of vine shoots, reach the table burnt on
the outside, and are delicious but messy (restaurants provide bibs and
even gloves to eat them).
I think they are just a variety of white onion, cultivated in a special
complicated way.
