I use WordPerfect in this situation. I can enter special characters
(extended ASCII set only) like the nonsense word below
àçôÿøêñÆ ½©™ £¥§¢
by going to Insert > Symbol (Control W) for these characters. I can copy
this word and paste it into Eudora. MS Word should have similar capabilities.
The keys for the Mac OS may be different, but you still have to know what
numbers go with what symbols. Also, the ability to read the extended ASCII
characters depends on both the OS and the text editor of the program (email,
word processor, composer [PageMaker, Quark], spreadsheet, database) you use
to read it with.
If it looks like gobbeldygook in your email, copy the word in question to
Word or WordPerfect. The correct info is probably there and might show up
correctly in your word processor.
