Hi Nan
I left this one to see if you got any local replies which might be more
appropriate to your situation.
There were none I saw - so - it sounds to me like Aloe rust. If you can find
a copy of van Wyk & Smiths 'Guide to the Aloes of South Africa' you'll find
photos of it under pests & diseases. I've never been troubled with it so
can't offer any personal observations I'm afraid. The book says recovery is
very slow, even if treated with fungicide.
