I have a small tree that I allow to keep in a 12 inch pot. I have had it for about ten years and, while it is durable, it is hard to propagate. As a member of the Myrtle family, it is probably under restrictions by the USDA, so it is just as well it is very difficult to propagate.
As a native to Jamaica, it absolutely can't tolerate cold below freezing for more than a few hours. Borderline conditions will cause its leaves to drop, and it will take around four months to recover.
The leaves can be used in cooking. I believe they are used in Jamaican jerk sauces.
